Friday, Nov. 7, 1997,
I got a call from the Vet. So, I got through my panic attack and made it out the door. When I arrived at the vet I wanted to cry. To my surprise, I saw a female
White German Shepherd. The Vet said he felt he should call me because of the love I have for GSD's and WGSD's. I call her...
Mercy was brought in from someone who finally caught her. They
said she had been roaming the streets for quite awhile. She broke my heart. This is what I saw:
She had no undercoat and was sparsely covered with hair. She had, demodactic mange, flea dermitis, lesions covering
her body, no hair on her ears and bleeding, large oozing scabs. No hair on her tail with lesions, she looked like a skeleton with skin, and the skin was
angry red, she was guessed to be under one year, but over 6 months old Her feet torn from being on the streets, no hair around collar area (as if some one
had put a rope that tore it up). Her skin was hot, she was so badly mangled; no hair around the eyes, sores on all joints that touched surfaces, she only
weighed 29 lbs (should be over 60 at this age), I could put two hands around her waist, her skin was so tight that her nipples were receded, I could feel every
bone and see them as well.
I have two other white German Shepherds, and the vet said I could take her home because she was not contagious. She is with me now, has
had 9 meals now, but still a long road to recovery.
Nov. 22, 1997, it has now been one year since my Father passed away. I miss
him very much. Doctor's Mercy is still with me and I know why. She is doing quite well and has gained 11 lbs, that makes her 40 lbs. now !! She is very feisty
and has the most precious attitude. Thank you, my new little girl.
The road to recovery was a long one for Mercy, but today, she has not lost one ounce of energy. She runs sprints around the
house, without stopping for a break. I would swear she had lightening in her veins.

Trust me, her name is Mercy for a reason.
